The dot SE country-specific TLD was established in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration process was very restrictive, so a very low number of domains were ordered. Persons were allowed to grab solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a prerequisite, i.e. only Swedish individuals, companies and organizations were able to acquire a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized a lot and, accordingly, the number of dot SE domains has been rising each year.

At present, anybody can obtain a .SE name, which gives you the chance to contact the Swedish net community even if you do not have a local presence.
