Every registered domain has at least two Name Server records that show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your Internet domain to the servers of a specific web hosting company. In this way, you've got both your site and your e-mails managed by the exact same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there are lots of other records, like A and MX. The first one reveals which server handles the site for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter indicates which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, any time you enter a domain in your Internet browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you may be directed to the servers of a different provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain address. Having separate records for the website and the emails means you could have your site and your emails with 2 different companies if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting account through our company and you want to point either your site or your e-mails to an alternative company, it'll take you literally only 2 mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two, it won't take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of every record that you modify or set up will not take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will stay active after it's modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for each of your domains or subdomains is really easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are handled through our in-house built Hepsia CP, which includes a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you can click on every one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record is as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even when you have never dealt with such matters before, you'll not experience any problems if you want to direct your website or emails to another provider while keeping the second service with our company. When required, you may also create additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the instructions of the new provider.
