Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange information between a server and a client. Because the data exchanged by the two sides is encoded, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing a web hosting account. The commands which may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for instance, the alternatives are limited since you simply won't have root access to the web server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, etc. They are all actions which are executed within the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the machine or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are a number of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Hosting

If the hosting package deal which you’ve selected during the signup procedure comes with SSH access as standard, you shall be able to activate this feature with a mouse click in your Hepsia Control Panel. In case you have picked a different package, the SSH access function can be included through the Upgrades menu and it'll become available immediately. The information that you need to connect will be conveniently listed in the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You could also set what password to use from the same spot and you shall be able to change it whenever you want. All of the commands that are allowed are listed in the Help articles that we have prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax which you need to use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is available by default with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you may include it via the hosting Control Panel if needed - even only for the current month. In any case, you could activate and de-activate the function with only one click via the SSH section of the CP. In the same place, you will find the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you can easily input the password that you would like to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you may also change it as often as you need. A complete list of the commands which can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is provided in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and several examples. An extra function after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports this kind of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

When you acquire a new VPS server from our company, it'll provide full root access and you will be able to connect to the server and to control everything through an SSH console. The feature is included as standard with all packages, so you shall not need to activate or upgrade anything. Your website hosting server will be set up immediately after you get it and the instant you get the Welcome e-mail with the login details, you may connect using the server’s primary IP address and begin working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts within the physical machine, there won't be any restrictions with regards to the commands which you can use. You shall have full root access, so that you can install and run any app that can work on a Linux server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the entire machine or any software operating on it.
